Goddess Durga

Goddess Durga, often referred to as Shakti or the divine feminine power, is one of the most revered deities in Hinduism. She represents strength, courage, and protection. Armed with weapons in her multiple hands and riding a lion, she is a powerful warrior goddess who battles evil and restores balance to the universe.

Durga’s name itself means "the invincible," and she is seen as a motherly figure who fiercely protects her children (devotees) from harm, while at the same time, she nurtures and cares for the universe.

A Glimpse of DOSOR Sarbojonin Durga Puja Heidelberg 2024
a person jumping into the air at sunset

The year was 2021, and some spirited individuals from Heidelberg, Mannheim, and Karlsruhe met at a renowned Durga Puja celebration in Stuttgart. Their encounters sparked a beautiful connection, leading to frequent outings and meetings at various events where they shared their thoughts and experiences. Soon, many other individuals with similar and even varying opinions were drawn towards each other like an unseen force, gently guiding them for some purpose, forming bonds akin to those of lifelong friends. With graceful fluidity, the circle gently blossomed, enveloping an ever-growing family over the years.

By the time the Earth had sweated hard to complete two rounds around the sun, the family had forged a bigger plan, envisioning 'Pratima Darshan' this time going a bit farther. However, amidst the excitement, a concern arose – "Wait a moment! I don't have a car, I cannot go far," someone expressed. "How about organizing ‘Durga Puja’ in our region?", he texted tenderly. It unfolded that everyone harbored the same heartfelt sentiment, and its gentle echo resonated even within the group chat.

And thus, the journey began sailing over the Rhein-Neckar bringing ‘Maa Durga’ to our home. Despite facing obstacles along the way, and battling with dark storms, the collective effort of resilient sailors eventually found their way back to shore with 'Mahamaya'. Ever since, the air has been filled with the joyous proclamation, "MAA ASCHE..."

With warmth and joy, the entire DOSOR Family is thrilled to announce the much-awaited and highly anticipated Durga Puja in Heidelberg. Together, let's weave the fabric of camaraderie and share in the joy of our collective success story.
